The Young Lawyers Division and Fellows of the YLD gathered for their annual dinner on Saturday during the TBA Convention in Memphis. Jackson attorney Paul Whitt with Rainey, Kizer, Reviere & Bell and Knoxville lawyer Chris McCarty with Lewis, King, Krieg & Waldrop won the YLD President's Award for their work as chair and vice chair of the Wills for Heroes Committee - which organized 13 legal clinics for first responders across the state this past year. Chattanooga attorney David McDowell with Gearhiser, Peters, Lockaby, Cavett & Elliott won best service project of the year for a golf tournament he sponsored, which raised over $12,000 for a local charity. The YLD's 14 district representatives also were recognized for their hard work over the past year.
During the dinner, the TBA YLD Fellows held its annual meeting and elected new officers for the coming year. The group now will be led by: Blountville lawyer Rob Montgomery, president; Nashville lawyer Scott Carey with Baker Donelson Bearman Caldwell & Berkowitz, vice president; Sevierville lawyer Cynthia Richardson Wyrick with Ogle, Gass & Richardson, secretary; and Angelia Morie Nystrom with Baker Donelson Bearman Caldwell & Berkowitz in Knoxville, treasurer. Jackson attorney Jonathan O. Steen with Redding, Steen & Staton presided over the meeting and assumed the position of immediate past president. Finally, the Fellows inducted 12 new members, including honorary member Tennessee Supreme Court Justice Cornelia A. Clark.
